EDP Lisbon Half Marathon & Vodafone 10K postponed to March 17, 2024 due to the scheduling of legislative elections
In light of the President of the Republic’s decision last night to call legislative elections for March 10, 2024, the Maratona Clube de Portugal has been forced to postpone the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon and the Vodafone 10K by one week, to March 17, 2024. The National Electoral Commission (CNE) and police authorities do not allow large-scale recreational and sporting events to take place, which, by cutting off the public highway, will jeopardize the exercise of the right to vote.
In addition to the date of the main event, the Saturday races will also be moved to the following week, March 16. Entries made up to that date have been automatically transferred to the new dates.
“We regret any inconvenience this change may cause athletes who have already registered, and we ask for everyone’s understanding in the face of this situation that we have been confronted with and to which we are not responsible,” says Carlos Moia, president of the Maratona Clube de Portugal. He added that “since the President of the Republic’s announcement, the entire MCP structure has been working to find an alternative date that would reconcile all the necessary logistical conditions“.
