EDP Lisbon Marathon

In its 7th edition, the EDP Lisbon Marathon is already considered as one of the most beautiful races in the world and acclaimed by international media such as the Forbes Magazine, the Huffington Post and American Express.

Starting in Cascais and finishing at Praça do Comércio, the EDP Marathon course is 100% sea and river side, providing to the runners an unique view along the race.

The EDP Lisbon Marathon is a official race of the International Athletics Federation (IAAF) calendar and it’s becoming a top international race, attracting the top elite athletes and thousands of foreigner runners from all over the world.

Starting at Cascais, the EDP Lisbon Marathon drive its racers to Lisbon by sea side and river side roads. The course follows the Estrada Marginal along the Tagus River in the direction of Lisbon. The finish line is located at Praça do Comércio, downtown Lisbon.

Participation Kitbags

The delivery of the participation kitbags (bib number and official t-shirt) will take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, on the 10th, 11th and 12th of October from 10:00 AM to 20:00 PM at the Altice Arena Sala Tejo (Rossio dos Olivais, Lote 2.13.10ª 1990-2331 Lisboa).

The athletes must present their registration document (sent by email) and a personal ID document to collect their kitbag.

The athletes can nominate someone to collect their BIB. The nominee needs to present the registration document and a copy of a personal ID document from the registered runner.

How to get to the starting line

The starting line is located at Av. da República in Cascais. To get to the starting line the participants may use for free (presenting their BIB) the public transport system (train, subway and buses) hired by the organization, available from 6:15 am.

EDP Lisbon Marathon REGULATIONS

1. The Maratona Clube de Portugal, with the support of Lusoponte and the Lisbon Metropolitan area, organizes on October 13th, the 7th edition of the “EDP Lisbon Marathon

2. The race has the exact distance of 42.195 meters and starts at 8:00 am. The starting line is located at the Cascais Hippodrome and the finish line is located at the Praça do Comércio, in Lisbon. The course follows the Estrada Marginal along the Tagus River in the direction of Lisbon.

3. The route was scouted by an official AIMS delegate, in accordance with the international IAAF regulations, with data supplied by the event’s Technical Director.

4. . The Organization stipulated the following ranks and in accordance with the regulations:

5. The organization stipulates a time limit of 6 hours for the maximum duration of the race. All athletes still running after 14:30 will be required by the authorities to move to the sidewalk and allow the road traffic to resume.

6. All registered athletes will be entitled to a technical t-shirt, a BIB with number and chip and a goodies bag. At the end of the race all runners will receive a medal.

7. Athletes are required to wear a BIB with their registration number throughout the race. This bib has a built-in chip that ensures not only the ranking of the athlete, but also accurate timing throughout the various checkpoints placed by the organization to ensure fair play.

Electronic control areas are provided for accurate ranking. Any runner will be disqualified if:

  • is not properly registered;
  • does not wear the bib correctly;
  • does not complete the route in its entirety

8. Official supplies will be served at least every 5 km, as well as at the finish line. 

9. Although the Organization has structured a careful medical assistance service, under the guidance of a respected team of experts, participants must be physically and psychologically prepared to participate in an endurance event as demanding as a Marathon.

9a. FEMEDICA is the medical partner responsible for the Official Medical Service.

10. It is recommended that athletes fill in their name, phone, and medical details on the back of their bib. This information may be important in case any health problems arise along the way.

11. All participants are covered by personal accident insurance, with a capital for death or permanent disability up to EUR 28.000 EUR and medical treatment expenses up to EUR 4.000.

12. Registration is done at the official race website.

13. To pick up their goodies bag and race BIB, the participants must present a photo ID and a printout of their registration confirmation email.

14. Anti-Doping Control – the 6 highest ranked male and female athletes are required to attend the anti-doping control in accordance with IAAF rules.

15. Only the first 3 prizes will be delivered on the site of the event. The remaining prizes money will be sent via mail (after the official results are closed), according to the established prize table and after reception of the respective invoice, in accordance with the tax rules in effect.

16. Any omissive occurrence of this regulation shall be resolved by the Technical Director of the evidence and according to the official regulations in force and opinions of the IAAF/AIMS..

What is the EDP Lisbon Marathon?

The EDP Lisbon Marathon is an athletics race that starts in Cascais and ends at the emblematic Praça do Comércio.

What is the course?

The START LINE is at Manuel Possolo Hippodrome in Cascais through the riverside and AV. Marginal and ends at Praça do Comércio.

What is the distance of each race?

The Marathon has 42 KM, and Half Marathon 21 km, and the Mini Marathon is 8,5 km.

Do I get a medal and T-shirts if I participate in the Marathon, Half Marathon and Mini Marathon?

Yes. All the event races will offer to the participants a technical t-shirt and a medal after the race is complete.

After the registration how do I proceed?

After finishing the registrations, the participants will receive, up to a week before the race, an e-mail with the attributed BIB number. The participation kitbags can be picked at Sport Expo.

At what time the race starts?

The Lisbon Marathon starts at 8.00 hours and Half and Mini Marathon, 10.30 AM.

How can I go to the start line?

What is the time limit?

The time limit is 6 hours for the Marathon and 3 hours for the Half and Mini Marathon.

Can I pick my number up the morning of the race?

No. There is absolutely no race number distribution on race day.

Can I pick up the kitbag of a friend?

Yes, you can. The athletes can nominate someone to collect their BIB. The nominee needs to present the registration document and a copy of a personal ID document from the registered runner.

What is served during the course?

Where are the results?

Provisional results will be available on line after 07:00 p.m. of race day. Official results will be closed two weeks after the event.

Is there gear check?

Sorry, there is no gear check.

Are there any showers available on the course or at the finish?

Sorry, there are no showers available.

Do I receive a “chip” with the Mini?

No, there is no “chip” for the Mini Marathon runners. The Mini Marathon don’t have time control.

Can I get a finisher certificate for my participation?

Yes, but only for the marathon and half marathon runners only, as the mini marathon is not timed. Participants can find their finisher certificate on the race website.

I’m registered but I would like to change races. How do I proceed?

You must inform the organization up to 15 days before the race date. There are no refunds if you cannot participate.

How can I pick up my race number and T-shirt if I lose my confirmation document?

At Sport Expo, search for the “Solutions” counter.
