The starting line of the 2024 EDP Lisbon Marathon is located at Avenida da República, next to Hipódromo Manuel Possolo in Cascais (a lovely fishing villa about 30 km from Lisbon center).
The starting shot of the EDP Lisbon Marathon is scheduled for 08h00 am. The organization strongly advises the runners to be at the starting area from 30 to 45 minutes before the start of the race to avoid last-minute complications and have enough time to deliver their bags, identify their starting box, and warm up without any pressure.
Runners can reach the starting line by their means, or use public transportation, available for free during race day by presenting their BIBs. The race organization recommends that runners stay in Lisbon and use the train to travel to the starting line at Cascais (the train station is a 1 km walk to the starting line).
The Lisbon-Cascais train line starts at Cais do Sodré and takes 40 minutes to arrive at Cascais. Besides Cais do Sodré, there are several stations along the train line that runners can take towards Cascais.
From the Cais do Sodré station runners have the following departure times: 05h30, 06h00, 06h10, 06h20, 06h30, and 07h00 (check here the timetable). After 07h00 am, the trains won’t arrive in Cascais on time for the starting shot.
Runners must not wait for the last train at 07h00 am, most of the 8.000 runners will choose the train to go to Cascais, and the trains have limited capacity.
Runners that opt to use other means to reach Cascais (car, taxi, Uber…) must plan their trip so that they arrive early. There will be streets closed around the starting line, so it’s the most important to arrive early enough to reach it on time.
Runners staying at Cascais must find their means to get to the start line. Unfortunately, there’s no agreement with local transportation to the start.
Runners staying in Cascais can use the train to get back from the finish line for free (by presenting their BIBs).
At the starting area, the runners will find Water, WCs, the bag drop truck, the starting boxes, and the starting line.
There are six starting boxes available: under 3h00; under 3h30; under 4h00; under 4h30; under 5h00, and +5h00. The starting boxes were assigned according to the times registered by the runners on the registration form. VIP guests have a specific starting box available.
There will be six different pacers that runners can follow: 3h00, 3h15, 3h30, 4h00, 4h30, and 5h00.
No, only runners with their BIBs can travel to start line.
The starting boxes were assigned according to the times registered by the runners on the registration form. Runners can confirm their starting box by checking their registration through the race website (just need to insert their email at the “Check your registration box” on the right top of the homepage.
Runners that wish to change their starting box must go the Solutions desk at the Seaside Sport Expo and make their request.
Male runners with a personal best (duly proved) under 02h16m and female runners with a personal best under 02h36m (duly proved) can ask a special BIB to start in the front. Runners must send their requests to info@maratonaportugal.com with a document proving the time achieved.
Runners who forgot to pick up the safety pins to attach the BIB to the t-shirt can ask a staff member for pins. There’s no guarantee that the staff has enough safety pins for all requests.
